Stuck On Loop
BFA Mid-Residency Show
Mint Gallery, CalArts
January 27-February 1, 2024
Stuck on Loop is a collection of one hundred chromogenic prints, with the inclusion of a few black and white and digital prints, and two four minute videos depicting social landscapes that I have stored in my personal archive.
For this particular body of work, archive encompasses both physical and memory forms of creating, thus creating a temporal paradox. As time appears to progress, the same events and locations keep getting revisited over and over in the hopes of analyzing the past in reference to the present, and possible future.
Some of these photos are from a past I hope to never revisit and the others are from a present I hope to keep. Stuck on Loop refers to my ever-changing identity and to the people, places, and things that ground me.
This project serves as a self-reflexive exercise to recognize my obsessive cyclical patterns of looking and cravings of multiplicity when there is a lack of movement in my personal life. The videos included in this show act as moving images to transfer the work into the present and paired with the photographs they create a conglomerate life force, shifting between memory and reality.
A poetics of banal moments constructing universal experiments that get stuck on loop until we create new patterns and keep our old ones on rewind as traces.
